THE Race for Dignity:
The Race for Dignity was inspired by Scott Simpson’s story. Scott, a Toronto-based triathlete who was diagnosed with HIV over seven years ago, wanted to do a race across Africa (the Tour d'Afrique) to raise funds for Dignitas.
At one point during his intense training, his body essentially broke down, and he realized that it wouldn’t be possible for him to finish his race that year. A University of Toronto student heard Scott’s story and immediately knew what needed to be done - "WE needed to finish this race for Scott"...and that is exactly what students did!
Hundreds of students from three university campuses with one goal - let’s finish this race!
On December 1, 2005 from 9AM to 9PM, students cycled on stationary bikes in teams or as individuals at their respective campuses. Money was raised by bikers through pledge collections, and over $9,200 was raised! |
