What is the Race for Dignity?
Dignitas Youth members created the Race for Dignity after being inspired by the resolve of Scott Simpson, an HIV+ triathlete, to raise awareness about inequities in access to essential HIV/AIDS medications. Scott was determined to cycle across Africa in the Tour d'Afrique, drawing attention to the lack of access to HIV medications on the continent. When he realized that his body would not allow him to fulfill his dream, Dignitas Youth members took it upon themselves to finish the race!
Each year, Dignitas Youth Chapters and high schools host Race for Dignity events - spinathons on stationary bikes - on their campuses. Thousands of dollars are raised for Dignitas International's work in Malawi, providing thousands of people with access to life-saving medicines!
