PAST EVENTS:

*Dignitas Urges Parliament to Amend the Canadian Access to Medicines Regime: The Canadian government has the ability to save lives and help get essential medicines to ailing patients in developing countries. Dignitas supporters and Youth Chapters participated in the National Day of Action on April 1, 2009.

*Annual Retreat: September 20-21, 2008
The retreat was held at the Hart House Farm, just north of Toronto. Dignitas Youth delegates from across Canada gathered to discuss and plan activities for the upcoming year, got first-hand knowledge of Dignitas's programs, and learned about the current HIV/AIDS pandemic, while connecting with other Chapter members and Dignitas staff.

Special guests included James Fraser, Co-Founder and Executive Director of Dignitas International; Dr. Sumeet Sodhi, Dignitas's Director of Research and Operations; and Carol Devine, former Program Director for Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) Canada and Dignitas USA Board Member.

*The Race for Dignity at the University of Alberta: December 1, 2007
Dignitas Youth at the University of Alberta held its first annual Race for Dignity on World AIDS Day. One hundred and thirty participants came out to the Students Union Building to cycle on stationary bikes from 9AM to 9PM. Cyclists were entertained by Kung Fu and Capoeira marital arts demonstrations, hip-hop and swing dancers, movies and trivia, as they cycled to raise funds for and awareness of global AIDS and the work of Dignitas.

The students more than doubled their fundraising goal, raising over $11,000 to support Dignitas's community-based care initiatives in Malawi! Congratulations U of A on a fantastic event!

*Annual Retreat: October 12-14, 2007
Dignitas Youth held its annual retreat at the Homewood Suites in Mississauga.

Representatives from across the country gathered to discuss chapter programming, receive leadership training, network with other chapter executives and Dignitas staff, and get firsthand updates from the project in Malawi. A special thanks to all the facilitators and presenters: James Fraser, Shawn Saulnier, Dr. Sumeet Sodhi, Drew Dudley, Matthew Chan, Ankita Jauhari, Kathe Rogers, John Miers, and Scott Simpson - you made the weekend a huge success!
